Brighton Fun!

Fab…fab… fabulous!!!

While the journey to Brighton was filled with more mishaps and misadventures (I inadvertently left my credit card with the ticket agent at the station in Woking and had to back-track my way to Woking sans Eric and the kids to get my card), our stay in Brighton was, as predicted, the highlight of our trip back to the UK.

Last year, during my first trip back to the UK, I had the good fortune of finally meeting Blue’s wonderfully witty other half, Clare.  We bonded over drinks, dinner and the sharing of old letters from Blue that I had saved as a child, and during this past year, our burgeoning friendship continued to evolve via email and the occasional call.  This visit cemented the deal…between me and Clare, between Blue and Eric, and between the kids – Allison and Joanie, and most especially, Michael and Lola.

Quite un-England like, we had amazing weather (for at least some of the time) – 70′s and sunny, without a single cloud in the sky the first day we arrived.  We picnicked in the park, played games at the Pier, gorged our bellies on ice-cream, sugared donuts, and fish and chips, and just enjoyed being with each other – laughing, playing, and talking…way too much by Blue and Eric’s standards, but I know I speak for Clare when I say that the two of us could have chatted for many more hours! :)

As Blue, Clare, Eric and I toasted each other over a glass of wine the last night at the kitchen table, I remarked at the many blessings my childhood friendship has produced all of these years later – a new friend and kindred spirit found in Clare, a wonderful kinship between Eric and Blue, and a whole new generation of friendships forged between our passel of children.

Here’s to the priceless gift of friendships old and new…
